The I-94 Maple Grove design-build project was aimed at providing a durable, long-term section of pavement between Rogers and Maple Grove. The project included concrete overlay, drainage improvements, noise walls, and a concrete median barrier to improve safety .
WSB was hired to provide their design-build expertise to deliver on the contract expectations and help execute a quality project. The design-build delivery method is intended to promote innovation and alternative construction ideas to improve the process and quicken project timelines. Project design, permitting, and other activities are delivered while the project is under construction, allowing for accelerated completion. WSB team members focused on creating a team atmosphere and getting buy-in to the design-build mentality.
The team provided Consultation Verification services to MnDOT from the design team, comprised of roadway, traffic, environmental, Geotech, ITS, drainage and project management services. As the project transitioned into the construction phase, the team continued to provide inspection, project controls, change management, material testing and environmental compliance services.
The I-94 Maple Grove project will be completed within a two-year timeframe, resulting in design-build delivery method buy-in from all parties.
