The Fallon Avenue Overpass project is known in Monticello as a bridge that connects the community. Situated along both sides of Interstate 94, Monticello is a fast-growing community with development occurring on both sides of the interstate. Fallon Avenue Overpass serves as a major local connection in the city that improves transportation, economic development opportunities and public safety.
The project included the construction of the Fallon Avenue bridge over Interstate 94, three roundabouts located at the intersections of Fallon Avenue and Chelsea Road, Fallon Avenue and 7th Street, and 7th Street and Washington Street and pedestrian and streetscape improvements.
The project was conceived over two decades ago as the city’s vision was to provide a gateway for growth and economic development for the community.
As the consulting city engineer for the city, we oversaw the project and consulting team and engaged city staff and the city council on critical elements from project initiation through construction. To support the city’s vision for Fallon Avenue, we provided services for roadway and bridge design, traffic engineering, environmental documentation, landscape architecture, stormwater management, right of way acquisition, public engagement and construction management.
This signature overpass required careful planning and design to ensure the project meets the city’s needs today and in the future. Now complete, the Fallon Avenue Overpass realizes a vision more than 20 years in the making with several short-term benefits and long-term solutions designed for the city’s growth. The transformational project will help set the trajectory of the city of Monticello for decades to come.
